Gemini 1.5 Pro
Gemini 1.5 Pro was a multimodal large language model released by Google in 2024, with a context window of up to 2 million tokens and input across text, images, audio, video, and code. Google stopped making it available to new projects on 29 April 2025 and shut the model down on 29 September 2025, by which time Gemini 2.5 Pro was the Pro-tier model in its place. The model used a transformer architecture and was trained for reasoning, long-context and multimodal tasks. Gemini 1.5 Pro used a sparse mixture-of-experts architecture and was post-trained with reinforcement learning from human feedback and safety tuning. It was used for long-context processing, multimodal reasoning, code generation and mathematical problem-solving, and was available through the Gemini API and Vertex AI.
Organizations used Gemini 1.5 Pro for document processing, multimedia content analysis, research assistance, and analytical tasks that needed long-context or multimodal input. Access ran through the Gemini API and Vertex AI; workloads still on the model had to be migrated to a supported Gemini version before the shutdown.
