AI21 Jurassic-2
AI21 Jurassic-2 is a large language model family released by AI21 Labs in March 2023 as the successor to Jurassic-1, aimed at natural language understanding, text generation, and long-form content work in business applications. AI21 has since moved to the Jamba family, a hybrid Mamba-Transformer architecture first released in March 2024. Jurassic-2 is a decoder-only transformer, released in three sizes (Light, Mid, and Ultra) alongside instruction-tuned variants, with generation controls such as temperature, top-p, and repetition penalties. Alongside the general-purpose models, AI21 published task-specific APIs for operations such as summarization, paraphrasing, grammatical error correction, and text segmentation. Jurassic-2 was applied to long-form writing, technical documentation, content generation, and analytical reasoning.
Enterprise deployments used AI21 Jurassic-2 for content marketing, technical writing, business reporting, customer communications, and educational content creation. The models were reachable through AI21 Studio, Amazon Bedrock, and Amazon SageMaker, and AI21 Studio supported fine-tuning on customer data for domain-specific use.
