AI Agent framework
An AI agent framework is a set of pre-built software components, protocols and patterns for building, deploying and managing autonomous AI agents. It provides the standard pieces every agent needs, so developers spend their time on the agent's logic rather than on infrastructure.
Most frameworks include modules for perception, reasoning and decision-making, action execution, memory management and communication between agents, along with standard APIs for calling large language models, vector databases and external services through plugins. More advanced frameworks add planning, tool use and the splitting of a task into smaller steps that different agents can take on.
Popular frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGen and CrewAI offer tools for natural language processing, workflows and coordinating several agents, plus templates, configuration-driven development, debugging tools and deployment orchestration. Shared development patterns and reusable components make prototypes faster to build and keep agent systems modular and easier to scale.
