ChatGPT 5
GPT-5 is the large language model OpenAI released on August 7, 2025; ChatGPT is the product interface it was served in, and there is no separate model named ChatGPT 5. It was superseded by the later GPT-5.x releases and, in September 2026, by GPT-6. At launch it was presented as a unified system that routed between fast responses and a deeper reasoning mode, with multimodal input and improved contextual understanding across domains. OpenAI reported gains over earlier GPT models in code generation, mathematical problem-solving, and writing, alongside alignment work aimed at reducing hallucinations and unsafe completions.
Its long context window and native tool calling made GPT-5 a common base for agent implementations in enterprise settings, from customer service automation to multi-step analytical tasks.
