LangChain founder

LangChain was founded by Harrison Chase, a former Airbnb and Robust Intelligence engineer who launched the framework in 2022 to allow developers to connect large language models (LLMs) to data sources and external tools. Chase built the first Python prototypes exploring Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) patterns, then open-sourced the code at MIT to accelerate community adoption. As CEO of LangChain Inc., he manages the project’s roadmap — weekly releases, a TypeScript port, and integrations with vector databases, agents, and multimodal models — while securing venture funding from Benchmark and Sequoia. Known for his hands-on approach, Chase co-hosts pull requests, answers GitHub issues, and speaks at AI conferences on rapid development and evaluation. His vision is a plug-and-play LLM stack that abstracts away model and infrastructure changes, allowing teams to focus on product logic. Under his leadership, LangChain has become the de facto tool for building chatbots, co-pilots, and autonomous agents in finance, healthcare, and SaaS.
